The Missionaries of the Precious Blood saw three members of their Congregation pass to eternal life in recent months.

Fr. Clement Kuhns, C.PP.S., 86, died on January 16, 2008, in the infirmary at St. Charles Center in Carthagena, Ohio. He had been in failing health for some time.

Fr. Kuhns, born on January 12, 1922, in Canton, Ohio, entered the Society in 1936 and was ordained on May 16, 1948.

After his ordination Fr. Kuhns taught Latin and Greek at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., and was assistant director of seminarians there. In 1962, he was appointed magister spiritus of brothers for the Congregation.

Fr. Kuhns entered parish ministry in 1970 as parochial vicar first of Corpus Christi Church in Dayton then of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Cleveland. In 1972 he was named pastor of St. Henry Church in St. Henry, Ohio.

He served as pastor of the Church of the Nativity in Lake Mary, Fla., from 1977 to 1983. Fr. Kuhns then lived outside the Community for several years before returning in 1994. Ill health caused his retirement to St. Charles Center, where he made his home until his death.

Fr. Kuhns was gentle and good-hearted. He was a caring pastor who was also devoted to his family. He used his sense of humor to lend cheer to others. “He loved to laugh, but he was very serious about his ministry,” said one friend.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on January 19 at St. Charles.

Fr. Francis Kinney, C.PP.S., 86, died on February 9, 2008, at St. Charles Center. He had been in failing health for some time.

Fr. Kinney was born November 8, 1921, in Ironton, Ohio. He entered the Community on September 1, 1943, and was ordained on May 15, 1947.

After his ordination, he became a member of the staff of Brunnerdale, a high school seminary formerly administered by the Community in Canton, Ohio. There, he was an instructor and later vice rector, principal and rector.

In 1957 Fr. Kinney was named the first principal of Central Catholic High School in Lafayette, Indiana, a position he held until 1960 when he returned to Brunnerdale. In 1965 he was appointed dean of the Calumet, Ind., campus of Saint Joseph’s College (later the Calumet College of St. Joseph).

Fr. Kinney became pastor of St. Mary of Pine Grove, near his hometown of Ironton, Ohio, in 1983. He served there until he retired to St. Charles last May.

An accomplished pianist, Fr. Kinney was a people person, gregarious and hospitable.

A Mass of Christian burial was held February 14 at St. Charles.

Fr. Mauricio Restrepo, C.PP.S., 37, died of a heart attack in Bogotá, Colombia, on February 7, 2008. A native of Bogotá, he pursued a career as an architect and married; he discerned a call to the priesthood as a widower after just six months of marriage. He was ordained in 2006. His assistance was instrumental as the Congregation launched its ad experimentum mission in Colombia.

Fr. Restrepo was committed to his Community and to living the spirituality of the Precious Blood. He had many dreams for the Congregation’s mission in Colombia, and he is sorely missed by his brothers there and in the United States.
