Colombia Celebrates C.PP.S. Bicentennial

Fr. Joseph Deardorff, C.PP.S.

For three days, we celebrated the bicentennial of the Congregation. Each day, we focused on the need to continue the dream that was given to the Congregation through Saint Gaspar. We preached on how we need to continue that dream in Colombia and invited everyone to join us as we develop that dream today.

On August 15 and 16, we celebrated the Eucharist in our parish, Nuestra Señora de los Alpes. On Saturday evening, we were honored to have Bishop Daniel Falla, secretary of the Bishop’s Conference, preside. He has accompanied us since the beginning of the mission and is our “Cristaldi” in Colombia.

Following the Mass, there was a concert and sharing of food and drink. Sunday morning, the Episcopal Vicar, Fr. Francisco Niño, presided at the Mass and Fr. Joe Deardorff, C.PP.S., preached on the dream that must be continued and developed as a mission.

During the offertory procession, the children and the youth of the parish presented the gifts, doing so through folkloric dances from the different regions of the country.

After Mass, we sang “Happy Birthday” and blew out the candles on the cake. Again, there was time for sharing and enjoying each other’s company.

On Monday, the members, seminarians, lay associates and friends of the Community spent a day together in the country. We started the day with the celebration of the Eucharist. Fr. Angelmiro Granados, C.PP.S., presided and led us through a reflection on healing. The people were anointed with oil and many felt the healing touch of God. At lunch, we shared a typical Colombian dish that had been prepared over an open fire. There was time for games, dancing and just relaxing, taking in the country air.
