Missionaries of the Precious Blood believe that all of God’s people are called to a missionary faith. That is, all are evangelists. All are seekers. All serve the people of God. All are aware that God’s path leads us to places where we never thought we could go.
With that missionary spirit, many of the Missionaries
of the
Precious Blood serve in parishes in Ohio,
Indiana, Florida
and California. Some are rural,
some are in the heart of the
city. For a list of
Precious Blood
Parishes click here.
Many Missionaries of the Precious Blood are also
educators.
Our Community sponsors two colleges,
Saint Joseph College
in Rensselaer, Ind., and
Calumet College of St. Joseph in
Whiting, Ind.

Saint Joseph’s College educates over 1,000 undergraduates
on its beautiful rural campus. The unique education that
students receive at Saint Joseph’s includes coursework in
Core subjects, a required program of philosophy, theology and
ethics that places them at home in the culture of Christ.

Calumet College of St. Joseph began in a storefront
in East
Chicago, Ind. Today it has an enrollment of over
1,300
students
on its growing campus near Chicago.
Many of
those students
are non-traditional, working
part-time
towards a degree while
they also raise children
and
hold down jobs. It is one of the
most ethnically diverse
small colleges in the U.S. Click here

Missionaries of the Precious Blood are also active in retreat
and renewal work. This has been an important mission of the
Congregation since it was founded by St. Gaspar del Bufalo, a
gifted preacher himself who was on fire with the Word of God.
Click here for a list of members who offer retreats and days
of reflection. Others participate in the Precious Blood
preaching ministry, which trains teams of preachers that
present retreats and parish missions based on Precious Blood
spirituality. These preaching teams of a priest, a sister and a
lay associate offer parishioners a rich variety of experiences
and views during their mission. Click here to visit the

The Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio,
administered by the Missionaries of the Precious
Blood, offers peace and spiritual enrichment.
Pilgrims are encouraged to wander the
pathways
of the shrine’s 120-acre wooded grounds.
Eucharist
and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are
offered
daily by the shrine staff. Thousands of visitors
come to the shrine each year, many on special
Sundays that celebrate their ethnic roots. To learn
more about the Sorrowful Mother Shrine and its
schedule of events click here.
In 2002 the Missionaries of the Precious Blood struck out into new missionary territory with the Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation. This ministry, in the struggling Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago, brings the balm of Christ’s healing to families torn apart in a culture of violence and poverty. They visit prisons, reach out to suffering families, and offer a support structure to youth who might otherwise be lost. The staff members of the Precious Blood Center carry what they have learned about God’s reconciling love out to parishes and other organizations that need to hear the same message.

In keeping with the tradition of the Congregation, which is
to carry the message of God’s healing love to those who
need it the most, several Missionaries of the Precious Blood
serve as chaplains in hospitals, clinics and with the Veterans
Administration.
Others have served or are serving as military
chaplains,
helping soldiers and their families build a ![]()
community of faith wherever they are.
When they no longer are assigned to active ministry, many members come to St. Charles Center in Carthagena, Ohio, where they continue to be of service to the people of God in lives of prayer and reflection. Many of the priests and brothers who live at St. Charles go out to neighboring communities to fill in for vacationing pastors, teach in religious education programs or minister in other ways.
St. Charles, a former seminary, is entering a new ministry
of its own with its ongoing conversion into a senior living
facility for lay people as well as for Missionaries of the
Precious Blood and diocesan clergy. The new faith
community that will be formed there will bring new life to
St. Charles in many ways. Planned renovations at St.
Charles will also make the building and grounds more
accessible and comfortable for Missionaries of the
Precious Blood, who gather there for retreats,
assemblies and other Community events. Click here for
more information on St. Charles Center.
