In the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Luz (Our Lady of the Light)
in Lima, Peru, 85,000 souls cry out.

Some for justice, some for faith. Some for healing, some for learning.
Some need a listening ear, some need meals, some need coins, some
need a glimpse through the gates of heaven.

How can anyone meet all the needs of those many souls, many of
them poor and hungry in this working class neighborhood on the dusty
northern outskirts of a huge and sprawling city?

The Missionaries of the Precious Blood step forward to answer that call.
They serve the parish and other locations in Peru and other Latin
American countries, finding new and innovative ways to meet the needs
of the people while sustaining their spirit by nourishing their faith lives.

Nuestra Señora
de la Luz

In the sprawling city of Lima, Peru, the people find a home at the Church of Our Lady of the Light.

Letting
the Light
Shine

In Peru, as in much of Latin America, the Church has stepped in to fill needs that in North America are often met by civic structures. And the needs are many; the average annual income in Peru is less than $3,000. Nearly 20 percent of the population earns less than $1 per day.
The parish is active in helping all those in need. Parish life at Nuestra Señora de la Luz is celebrated with liturgies at the main church - under construction above - and at nine small chapels throughout the 16 square miles covered within the parish boundaries, but parish life continues in many other ways as well.

The parish staff and its many adult volunteers provide many services, including:

• Adult faith formation
• Parish libraries for adults and children
• Prenatal care
• X-ray and other medical services
• A speech therapy lab
• A pharmacy
• Counseling services
• Legal aid
• Computer classes
• Job training for young people
• Classes that encourage young people to participate in the arts

Your generous donations make many of these programs possible. The people of Nuestra Señora de la Luz have benefited greatly from the help of their friends in North America.
