Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, welcomed its 18th president with a week of events celebrating the college’s history and ministry.
The week culminated with the inauguration of Dr. Robert A. Pastoor on Friday, October 16, in the college chapel.
Dr. Pastoor has more than 30 years of experience in higher education administration. He comes to Saint Joseph’s College from Mariettea College in Ohio, but also has served at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland, and also served at Carroll College in Montana, and the University of San Diego in California.
“Dr. Pastoor has been clear in stating that he sees what he does as a ministry of service,” said Fr. Steve Dos Santos, C.PP.S., provincial secretary, who was part of the C.PP.S. delegation at the inauguration. “His is very much an attitude of servant-leadership consistent with our own Precious Blood spirituality.
“He has the passion and the focus that SJC needs right now to move it forward as an institution.”
Dr. Pastoor used the week leading up to the inauguration as a time to spotlight the students, said Fr. Tim McFarland, C.PP.S., who is in ministry at the college.
“We had lots of events that celebrated the talents of our students, including a band concert, a stage production, and a student talent show —with some very talented students,” Fr. McFarland said. “We also had Fr. Dave Kelly, C.PP.S., speak on the ministry of reconciliation, which drew attention to the mission of the C.PP.S.”
