A message for the Solemnity of the Precious Blood from our Provincial Director Fr. Jeffrey Kirch, C.PP.S.
If you grew up with siblings, you may remember the feeling of holding your wrapped birthday gift and feeling the hot breath of a brother or sister on your shoulder as they moved in for a closer look or maybe a grab. As a child, your main priority is often to hang on to what is yours.
As we grow in faith and wisdom, we see that our gifts are meant to be shared. This is particularly true of one of our greatest gifts, the Precious Blood of Jesus, as one of our favorite Community prayers, the Seven Offerings of the Precious Blood, describes it, “poured out on the cross and offered daily on the altar.”
Our Congregation received this great gift: an appreciation of and reverence for the Precious Blood of Jesus. It is a worthwhile and lifelong pursuit for us Precious Blood people, but it means so much more when we can share it with others. When we preach about the Precious Blood, when we extol the powers of the Precious Blood to heal and reconcile God’s people, when we fervently believe in the Precious Blood and people can see that it us: then we are passing along this great gift for the good of the whole world.
On this Solemnity of the Precious Blood, may we remain faithful to the message of the Precious Blood, that “all may be brought near through the Blood of Christ” (Eph 2:13). May we proclaim that message to all people, God’s sons and daughters who have been redeemed at such a great price.
Glory to the Blood of Jesus, now and forever!
Rev. Jeffrey S. Kirch, C.PP.S.
