Born: New Riegel, Ohio

Joined the Missionaries: 1982

What drew you to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood?
I grew up in a C.PP.S. parish and had Precious Blood Sisters in school. New Riegel is the cradle of the C.PP.S. community in this country. I was raised in a very Catholic culture in which the Church was the center of the community’s life.

What is your current assignment?
Rector of the Sorrowful Mother Shrine.

What is the most challenging aspect of your assignment?
Overseing the upkeep and maintenance of a large, aging campus.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your assignment?
Meeting the many pilgrims that come to the Shrine. As a priest, people open up their hearts and souls to us, and we are privileged to be able to walk with them on their faith journey.

What did you do before joining the Missionaries?
Worked as a machinist after high school.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy the outdoors and manual labor. With 120+ acres of land, the Shrine offers ample opportunities, a chain saw and I are close friends.

Aside from St. Gaspar, who are some of your favorite Saints?
Obviously the Blessed Mother comes first. St. Joseph is a favorite of mine as well as St. John Paul II. John Paul II was Pope when I was in formation and ordained, and I view him as a great role model.

What is your favorite prayer?
The Angelus
The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary . . .
Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary . . .
And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary . . .
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

How much money would you earn on Jeopardy?
A little on the first set of questions, very little on Double Jeopardy.

Would you rather go skydiving or snorkeling?
Neither. I can’t swim and am not crazy about heights. Rather keep my feet on the ground.
